5 Tips For Jumping From Employee To Entrepeneur

When coaching yourself to success, don’t forget to build the right foundation.

Are you an Entrepreneur or a Want-to-preneur? We all know someone who talks about starting a business. They dream without setting goals that will move them closer to a reality—they are want-to-preneurs. Nearly everyone, at one time or another, has experienced the dreaded boss or workplace. We work too hard for very little compensation or appreciation and the moment an economic breeze shifts, we can be left hanging in the wind. We all love having a steady, predictable income. If you’re lucky enough to have a job you love, this article isn’t for you. If you fight feelings of frustration, the best solution to cure disliking your job is to become your own boss.

What will it take to develop an entrepreneur spirit that can survive the millions of new want-to-be businesses? Understanding the difference between dreaming and planning for success is one of the most valuable tools a gaebler possesses.

Gaebler entrepreneurs are the people who excel when all the odds are against them. They have a plan, goals, deadlines and work ethics. Gaeblers know how to persevere and succeed when others don’t think they can or will.

Entrepreneurship is invigorating, infuriating, exhilarating and exhausting. Business can be demanding which makes multi-tasking a daily requirement. Realizing your career goals depends heavily on your longevity, here are five tips for sustaining yourself:

1)    Be your own client. If you were coaching yourself into success, what tough and supportive things would you counsel for and against? If you never got paid, what could you get up every day and do? If your goal is to create financially freedom, understand there will be long days ahead before your business is lucrative and passion better carry you through those times. Make a list of why you’re doing what you’re doing. Keep your list in a place where you can see it daily.

2)    Set goals. Realistic, measurable, and time-sensitive goals work best. Take time to plan well, then work the plan. Not setting goals is like driving across country without a road map—you might get there and you might not.

3)     Say “Yes” to new experiences and opportunities. If it’s not illegal, fatal or too far off your goals, try it. Experiences often teach you more about yourself and help you think outside-the-box. Sometimes a new experience can point your career in a direction you never thought about, and sometimes experiences may demonstrate the wrong direction. Both are equally valuable.

4)    Listen more than you talk. Ask people what they do, what made them go that direction, what their greatest regret and proudest moments are and what advice they would pass along. People want to talk about their success and pass on golden nuggets and trade secrets. Let them. Be a sponge.

5)    Criticism and Cheerleading. Understand that both criticism and cheerleading serve valuable purposes. Don’t be afraid to ask how you’re doing. Realize criticism is about your work, not about you. Listen to others’ assessments, and praise, but also understand that there is a time to agree with them and make a change, and there is a time to thank them politely and let the information fall on deaf ears.

Keep several people around you for growth:

  • Engage someone you can look up to that is further down the path than you are and learn from them.
  • Keep several people around you who love everything you do; they’re valuable when you need to lick your wounds. They generally aren’t professionals, so don’t put too much stock in what they say, but heal your rejections with them. They’ll put you back in the game.
  • Peers are a great place to talk shop, commiserate together, and build up your confidence.
  • Associate with people who are nothing like you. They are an excellent source of new ideas, shining a light into yourself that you didn’t know existed, and appreciating views of life and business different from your own.
  • Choose these people wisely; seek people who inspire synergy.

Evaluate where you are and where you want to be. Focus on the things you do well, and put your energy into doing what only you can do. The peripheral items that need to be completed hand off to others. Those necessary but time expensive items farm out, barter, or trade any way you can until you are able to pay for help.

Ask yourself, “Am I a want-to-preneur or an entrepreneur?” Strength comes from knowing yourself best. Don’t waste your time and energy attempting to be an entrepreneur when you’d rather be an employee, and today’s business world is ripe for becoming an entrepreneur if you have the gaebler spirit.

Science Says These 7 Items Make You Instantly More Attractive

Infinite information is out there on fashion and what makes certain trends so appealing, which colors are best to wear, which pieces make the biggest impact. It’s no secret that we’re fascinated by the psychology behind our sartorial obsessions—and making style choices backed by science is what any savvy woman should do. But with so many facts and findings floating around the Internet, it’s hard to apply it all to your real-life look.

To make it easier, WhoWhatWear compiled a list of five items that will make you instantly more attractive—all based on studies and surveys conducted by legitimate research teams. See these must-haves below, plus two more essentials we thought the list was incomplete without.

1. Heels

According to this study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, not only was heel height found to be directly proportional to a woman’s attractiveness to men, but men were increasingly likely to exhibit helpful behavior and to spontaneously approach a woman the higher her heels were.

2. The Little Black Dress

Black has been determined by many sources to be the number-one color associated with characteristics such as sexiness, confidence, and intelligence.

attractive 3

3. Shoulder-Baring Styles

Thought breasts and butts were the only features men cared about? Think again. Researchers at the University of New South Wales discovered that men were highly attracted to women’s shoulders and arms.

attractive 4

4. Something Red

The color of passion, love and romance is a favorite of men for women and of women for themselves. Surprise, surprise. The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology just made official what we already knew.

5. A Bodycon Silhouette

While long limbs (as indicated above) are still high on the list of attractors, there’s no denying the seductive appeal of a buxom hourglass figure. A paper published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior indicates that women with larger bust-to-waist and waist-to-hip ratios tend to catch men’s eyes faster and keep their gaze longer than their longer, lankier girlfriends. If you have those Kim Kardashian curves, flaunt them.

attractive 6

6. Lipstick

On a bad day, there’s always lipstick. Nothing provides the instant pick-me-up quite like a swipe of your signature shade—and apparently others will respond to it, too. Researchers at a French university found that waitresses who wore red lipstick saw boosted tips from male customers. Similarly, a study conducted by Boston University women wearing a moderate application of makeup were perceived as more attractive, competent, and trustworthy.

7. Sunglasses

While not technically supported by any official study (that we know of), every fashion girl knows the power of a good pair of shades for making her look put-together and hiding tired eyes. Not to mention adding a touch of mystery and intrigue that’s guaranteed to turn heads.

How To Wear Patterned Suits

By: Adam Titchener

A trend that has exploded onto the catwalk and into the mainstream thanks to various high street stores, the patterned suit is something every dapper gent should be keeping an eye on. In the world of fashion, boundaries are being consistently pushed and the patterned suits emergence, as this season’s hottest trend, is no surprise. For years we’ve seen fashion houses experiment with bigger and bolder checks, houndstooth and pinstripes, so it’s only natural for that styling to evolve into heavily patterned suits.

Probably not one for the office, but one that will make you stand out from the crowd if worn with confidence. From subtler details like Paul Smith’s new camo over-check in his PS line, to full scale jungle prints from A. Sauvage for AW15, every end of the spectrum is catered for. The nature of the printed or heavily patterned suit means this is one where the shirt/tshirt and optional tie, should really ground the outfit. When working with heavy print it’s imperative that other areas of the outfit tone down the ensemble and keep the print the focus.

For look one we’ve chosen a suit from ASOS. We’ve kept the outfit casual so have chosen a t-shirt and crisp sneakers to maintain that the suit becomes the focus. This is a great look for when you want to stand out, but keep it relaxed. Clean, simple sneakers are imperative to this outfits appeal.

For look two we’ve chosen something bold from the queen of punk rock tailoring, Dame Vivienne Westwood. However this time we’ve gone down a more formal route. Feeling brave? Pull this one out at a slightly more buttoned up affair and you’ll stand out for all the right reasons. It’s absolutely paramount that you tone this one down with a classic shirt and tie combo or as shown here, a simple roll neck, this is definitely an area where we would highly recommend against experimenting further.

We mentioned earlier about the patterned suit probably not being the best choice for a meeting with your boss on Monday morning. However, if that inner dandy inside just has to get out, look no further than this fantastic suit from Paul Smith. Renowned for taking classics and adding a twist, or a hint of quirkiness, this season he’s taken the conservative check charcoal suit and added a camo overlay.

The great thing about this suit is it’s playfulness, It’s not immediately noticeable but once you’ve spotted it, you can’t help but be amazed at how well something so outlandish is being hidden in plain sight, clearly the camouflage is doing its job! We’ve toned this one way down with some help from a knitted tie and a crisp white shirt. You can hide in plain sight with this suit, but when you’ve made a statement as bold as a printed suit, don’t make the mistake of pushing that boundary too far.

The patterned suit is something we are going to be seeing a lot more of, thanks to high street stores filtering down what we have been seeing on the catwalk over the last few seasons. Worn with confidence, something printed, or with a very bold pattern, can send your look into the stratosphere. It’s not something for everyone, but why not be a bit bold and give yourself the option of having that one, head turning outfit?

As human beings, we look to outside sources to validate our own thoughts and experiences. This general notion is called “social proof.” When we see that others have been through similar experiences and have been where we have, it allows us to feel better about ourselves.
